Jim Cramer's top 10 things to watch in the stock market MondayPublished Mon, Oct 12 20269:06 AM EDTJim Cramer@jimcramerMy top 10 things to watch Monday, Oct. 12 1. Happy anniversary to the four-year-old bull market. There are plenty of reasons to suggest that it cannot last, from geopolitics to sky-high expectations for this upcoming earnings season and data center hostilities. In my Sunday column for Club members, I explained why I'm staying invested anyway. 2. Futures aren't doing much this morning. Oil prices are higher on two developments. The "energy ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine that President Donald Trump announced over the weekend already looks fragile . Also, Iran-backed Houthi militants carried out a deadly attack at a Saudi airport. 3. Busy week ahead. The big banks start reporting tomorrow morning . The September CPI report is due out Wednesday, followed by the wholesale PPI report Thursday. Also, our Monthly Meeting for October is at noon ET Thursday. Sign up to join the Club here . 4. Some interest rate-sensitive stocks, including the utilities and Club name Home Depot , have turned up, as absurd as that is. Utilities are largely owned for their dividend payouts, so the group gets hurt when bond yields look more attractive. However, the sector is up 5.5% from its Sept. 28 low. Home Depot needs lower borrowing costs to drive housing activity. Shares are up 3.4% over the past four sessions. 5. Salesforce was double-upgraded to buy from sell at Bank of America, and the Club stock is up almost 5%. Analysts conceded their past fears about AI-driven disintermediation were overstated, saying they now believe large enterprises will likely deepen their dependence on platforms like Salesforce thanks to AI. The "SaaSpocalypse" has turned out to be a canard. 6. UBS slashed its price target on hard drive maker Western Digital to $470 from $525 and kept its hold rating. While expecting a beat for the September quarter and strong December results, the analyst argued the market is underestimating cyclicality for hard drives and a possible downturn in late 2028 or early 2029. Hurts the broader memory complex, which includes Club stock Micron . The Situational Awareness wake is still with us. 7. A couple of price target cuts for Capital One : JPMorgan went to $227 from $246, while Morgan Stanley went to $267 from $273. Both stood by their buy recommendations on this Club name, though. The analysts strike similar tones, expecting resilient third-quarter results before risks to lower-income consumers from inflation and higher rates show up into 2027. Our thesis on this one is all about the Discover acquisition and the vertical integration to look more like American Express . 8. Evercore ISI started coverage of Robinhood with a buy. The analysts call the online trading platform "very impressive," with a growing product base aiming to become a "one-stop shop" for financial services. Evercore initiated Schwab with a hold. I think Schwab will be relatively unaffected by AI agents switching people into higher-yielding accounts and should be bought. 9. Seaport Research upgraded Mattel to a buy from hold with a $20 price target. The analysts point to media reports about Authentic Brands discussing a $20-per-share, or $6 billion, takeover offer. I continue to believe that Mattel will be bought by Authentic Brands, which owns dozens of names including Reebok and Champion, as well as Shaquille O'Neal and David Beckham lifestyle lines. Mattel's longtime CEO, Ynon Kreiz, left last month to join David Ellison's Skydance . 10. Melius Research raised its price target on Club name Alphabet to $395 from $375. Closely followed analyst Ben Reitzes said Google Cloud is crushing it, but gains in the stock are being held back by its "still murky" Search/Gemini performance. Google needs to re-establish leadership in AI models to see a sustained move higher.
